SO i’ve been on my bed, on my laptop for the past 12 hours.. coding and writing and coding and writing. I’m working on my main assignment for the Web Design portion of our Integrated Design Course. Here’s a screen capture of my new website- mind u.. this is DreamWeaver and those boxes won’t be there. For the first time i’m really doing it!! haha ok fine, Joo bag is helping me out. But still the design and everything is entirely on my own!
I’m proud of that, and the fact that I have been doing homework since 1pm today. K-dawg and I grabbed our final McDonalds craving for the week. I think I have officially had french fries everyday of the week… so bad. I pass by 3 every morning!!! I’m doing research for my History of Fashion Illustration course. I’ve hit some sort of revelation as I’m finishing my undergrad degree (finally!)…
I really enjoy fashion. I really do. I don’t think its the same for people who enter a fashion-related job without having the proper understanding of fashion. I think the fact that Ryerson has equipped me with a basic understanding of Colour and Design Principles, basic Fashion terminology and Textile Science, History of Art/Design/Costume/Illustration, plus other stupid event planning stuff… I feel like I actually do know what I’m talking about. Spitting out instrumental designers like Poiret or Vionnet (apparently they’re trying to revive this house!) or Illustrators like LePape and Erte who have revolutionized visual imagery in Fashion, entreprenuers like Shiseido and Conde Nast… wow. In retrospect, its not about understanding about the latest trends or knowing what colours to wear this season, its about the reflection of that time period, its cultural/social/political values.
I think this is why I’m so driven by the experience of learning and re-learning the material. I’m glad that the profs I have this year aren’t stupid and are academically sound with the rest of the world. One in particular writes for Fashion Theory and has a few other papers under her belt. I’ve read some of them, and I actually do like it!
Well… I’m really tired, off to another busy week. I’m glad I get to see Yen tomorrow! Another long awaited Picture Whoring Night!
so true! it's like advertising. people think they know everything there is to it. but it's different if they actually study it in depth and churn out impactful concepts and campaigns that can literally shape and change a consumer's behavior... that is powerful...!
*sigh* too bad mom wdn't allow me to do fashion lolz. but i think it worked out great i guess!
