As some have already seen, I had a recent interview with MSN Entertainment. I sat with Reta and Nicholas laughing about my past, present and future. Do take a read:
Welcome back, Sarah Lian!
The happy-go-lucky Sarah Lian is slowly, but surely, making a name for herself on the local front. MSN Entertainment sits down with the quirky Sarah as she talks to us about living her dream as an actress, emulating Emily Blunt and how she is blessing Malaysia by not singing.
What do you mean you don’t know who Sarah Lian is? You know, the Malaysian-born actress who played the Hot Asian Girl in ‘American Pie: Beta House’? Or the very same Sarah who was named Malaysia’s Most Wanted Woman by FHM in 2008? No? Well, we won’t blame you because, after all, the Canadian-raised Sarah just moved back to Malaysia. But mark our words: she will soon be one of Malaysia’s hottest stars, and you’ll be drooling over her in no time (we already are)!
The 26-year-old lass from Taiping recently starred alongside ‘The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift’ star Jason Tobin and ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’ actress Eugenia Yuan (“an honour”, according to Sarah) in an edgy psychological thriller titled ‘Jasmine’, playing an actress who becomes an object of a dangerous obsession.
While the role may propel her to instant superstardom, the pretty and very down-to-earth girl barely considers herself as a celebrity. We recently caught up with her during a small get-together hosted by, who else, Sarah herself as she talks to us about her role in the movie and her ‘addiction’ to Twitter, amongst other things.
First off: Can you tell us a little bit about your role in ‘Jasmine’?
I play a supporting lead, her name is Anna. Anna is an actress who has sort of lost her way in the moment. She has managed to let her guard down and encounters the main character, Leonard. From then on, things get weird. That’s all I gotta say, things get weird. (Laughs)
How do you feel working alongside big names stars such as Jason Tobin and Eugenia Yuan?
Oh my goodness. Honoured is one word. And then, blessed is another. I’m so grateful and I’m so honoured. I mean, these are Asian-American actors who have really put in their time and made amazing films. You know, Eugenia was in ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’ and Tobin was in ‘The Fast and the Furious’. Like, we know about these movies and now, I’m in a movie with them. I’m really proud.
How different is your role in ‘Jasmine’ than the one you had in ‘American Pie: Beta House’?
I think this character (in ‘Jasmine’) has a little bit more depth. When I talked to the director, he was telling me that it took him two years to find someone to play Anna, and the minute I walked in the door, he said, “Within two seconds, I knew you were her.”
My friends Amanda and Joyce also came by to support and shared a little about my lunch date too – check out their sites:
