With all the hype surrounding basketball – free agents, contracts and blah blah blah. I saw this note written by photographer Dan Pak about his latest project with Nike Taiwan. He was sent to Kaohsiung, Taiwan to capture the feeling of basketball through Taiwan’s youth and I just love what he had to say…
…this is the interesting metaphor that I experienced. I had stopped playing basketball over a decade ago. But basketball, indeed, never stops. Because a sport is never just a sport. It’s a culture. And membership to that culture doesn’t expire when your physical capabilities do. Love of that culture doesn’t disappear when there’s a strike or lock out. Understanding of that culture doesn’t depreciate just because times change. And the things you understand about that culture are commonalties that can replace even language.
Check out this beautiful series – here: Nike Taiwan: Basketball Never Stops.
A great reminder about the sport, the culture and the people.
…like many others, I’m still waiting for Dan’s book to come out. 🙂
