I’ve been incredibly mopey as of late, but I guess that’s what happens when we live on the edge of uncertainty. Of course, nothing cheers me up more than the glorious fruit DURIAN! When I had my Lasik Surgery in Penang, I was quite upset that the machine wasn’t calibrating properly and my surgery would have to be postponed. I was freaked out and in tears, the only way to remedy my disappointment was 3 boxes of durians!!!
Last night, a few of us, including John (Oxygen Magazine) and Chee Minh (Priority) ended up organizing this Durian night at Donald’s Durians in SS2. Among 8 of us, I think we definitely did some damage. We tried all the different types that was offered to us and for RM25-a-head, we were sampling the better quality durians by far! It was a non-stop durian fest for an hour with durians handpicked by owner Donald himself. Mmmmm nom nom noms.
AH LIAN APPROVED: The “Ice Cream” Durian was probably our favourite. The colour of the seeds were a light dingy yellow with a texture was quite light and fleshy without being to fibrous! You can tell them apart from others because the large seeds dug deeply into the husk of the durian .
Not-so-Favolite: Red Prawn/Ang Hia/Udang Merah, I’m not too fond of the taste, the seeds seemed quite dry and they were suggesting that this type was not that ripe. I tried two different versions of it but wasn’t exactly my cup of tea.
I woke up this morning feeling overly parched with my throat sore from the heatiness of my favourite fruit. It was pure heaven I tell you. I’m not too sure when we’re gonna have another Durian meeting again but it’ll definitely be soon! Just making sure that everyone is coming with an empty stomach!
Is your mouth salivating at the thought of durian?
