As the year wraps up and another one begins, here’s to a few of my highlights of 2014.
2014 was an interesting year no doubt. I officially moved back to Kuala Lumpur and was adamant about solidifying more sustainable projects for myself and build a base of focus and fearlessness. That’s where the “F Word” came about. Everything that came to mind began with an F and thus became my motto this year.
Most people still don’t really know what I do in the entertainment industry and neither do I sometimes but you’ll be able to tell once you have a look at some of the cool projects I’ve been involved with this year.
Not in any particular order, but here they are:
1. Actress, It’s Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong
This opportunity came after Jasmine director Dax Phelan screened the film and the director of IATIHK Emily Ting showed interest in casting me for a small role. I figured, why not and thought it was a great reason to be out in Hong Kong again and shoot another movie. Albeit short, I’m glad I get to connect with people this way and referrals always mean that I’m doing something good! 🙂
2. Role Model, Women @ Work Forum by GE
In conjunction with the BMW Malaysia Open for Ladies Tennis, GE organized a Women’s Empowerment forum moderated by Datuk Yvonne Chia and with fellow panel members like Mindy Teh, Marie Claire Malaysia Editor; Tan Sri Jemilah Mahmood, founder of Mercy Malaysia; Dato Nicol David, #1 squash player in the world.
It was a great way to celebrate acheivement and also empower women to support one another and take chances and not look back. I loved sharing my experience and how important it is to carve out your own careers and find what you love and live it.

3. Brand Ambassador, Face of Beverly Wilshire Medical Centre
This was a new role for me and I had many reservations about being the face of a medical centre focused on plastic surgery and aesthetics. Without looking at the surface value of what this was, it was also important for me to personify the stories of how building confidence from within and having treatments to bring you to a better you was just as important.
4. Emcee, Hosting Awesomeness Fest
Although I have hosted many different types of events before, this was the first time I hosted something like this with so many cool people to meet. I wasn’t too sure what to expect but I went with an open heart. Over 4 days in the stunning JW Marriott Phuket, each day and night was filled with activities and talks which allowed most of us to get to know ourselves and each other a little better. I have forged many great friendships and glad that we can all still connect with social media and facebook groups, whatsapp chats and etc. From this event, I have formulated a new plan for 2015 and I can’t wait for it to all unfold! Thanks Universe for lining this one up so perfectly!
5. Community Builder, Launch of NGOHUB.asia
I made a conscious decision to step away from pursuing an acting career in North America because I wanted to do more than just act. I wanted to have a hand in helping communities and what better way than to do it in my motherland Malaysia. I had been volunteering with Generasi Gemilang and I knew that there were many more NGOs who are constantly in need of funding, volunteers and etc. With Sols 24/7 and 7-11 Malaysia, they were able to build a platform to connect NGOs with Volunteers and vice-versa. So proud to celebrate and lend a hand in this!
