In November 2021, I was invited by Tatler Malaysia to visit Sandakan and it's neighbouring island Lankayan to explore the city's sights and sounds. I can honestly say that it was one of the highlights of my trip and one of the best shoots I had been on in awhile. Not only did I miss being infront of the camera and travelling, it also allowed me to be reminded of all the beautiful ecosystems that exist in our own backyard of Malaysia. Sabah Tourism Board have been pushing eco-tourism and finding ways to support sustainability and it is paying off!
Each restaurant showcased their signature dishes with lobster everything and I had never OD-ed on seafood the way I had in Sandakan. Everyone was so lovely and so hospitable everywhere we went. It was non-stop laughter and amazement at how the people collectively support the state's initiatives for eco-tourism. You have to go visit Sandakan. It truly has my heart.
